Artificial Intelligence Beyond Moore’s Law.

Wednesday, 19 February 2020 by Kelly Idehen

Before 2012, training an AI model to high degree accuracy could take days, now it can be achieved in only a few minutes. This trend of accelerating AI computing has been projected to continue according to report put together by Stanford University in partnership with Google, OpenAI, PwC, Mckinsey & Company, Genpact and AI21 Labs.

If I am to summarize the implication of this report in simple language, it means we haven’t touched the true power of AI yet, and we shouldn’t be too quick to throw away the possibilities of AGI happening within the next few decades.

Moore’s law will continue, yes, but AI will say to Moore’s law, “you are too slow for me, clear road!”

AI development will continue to jump in real leaps within the coming years, and who knows, maybe even pessimistic AI researchers may soon be forced to consider the possibility of AGI development.

Here is a profound excerpt I found on the issue from OpenAI’s report on the research; “Improvements in compute have been a key component of AI progress, so as long as this trend continues, it’s worth preparing for the implications of systems far outside today’s capabilities – OpenAI

I would be happy to hear your thought on this issue, but please, make sure your commentary is objective (this is not an AI takeover the world post).

GLOSSARY

Moore’s Law – Moore’s law has been in existence since the 1960s, the law provides a guide for how the speed of computing doubles every 18months or 2 years. It is this law that makes it possible for newer and powerful phones (Iphone11, Samsung S20 etc) or computers to be launched every year.

AGI – AGI stands for Artificial General Intelligence, it is the point where machine intelligence becomes so effective that it can do almost everything a human can do or even better in some cases.

Dealing With Machine Intelligence Explosion – Machine Vs Human Pt.2

Dealing With Machine Intelligence Explosion. Machines, especially through the power of AI, will surpass humans in Intelligence, effectiveness, and functionality.

Though there are some areas where humans will hold the dominance; mostly areas that require feeling and emotion. But overall, machines will have capabilities that far surpass even the most Intelligent of humans.Areas like Computer Vision, Natural Language processing, problems that require optimization etc. will all add up to give Machines a dominating edge. Imagine when all this is then combined with Quantum Computing? Madd ohh!

Does this mean Machines will overtake the world in some Dystopian Hollywood style? The answer is, No.Nevertheless, even though Machines will not overrun the world as painted in numerous Hollywood movies, humans are still at existential risk if the development and applications of Artificial Intelligence are not well managed.

There are two main ways I believe we can contain and manage Machine Intelligence explosion.

1. Through Regulations that forces Machines to stay as machines no matter how smart they may become.

2. This is method actively suggested by Elon Musk, it involves integrating the Machines into our Biological and neurological functions (merging humans with machines).

Both methods listed above come with their own unique set of challenges. In coming posts on this series, I intend to share more deeply on the implications of following either approach.

Note: I believe there is a big difference between Intelligence & Wisdom. This is discussion for another post. Please do share your ideas and thoughts in the comments section on the issue of what happens when Machine Intelligence explodes far beyond human level Intelligence.

Human Vs Machine Intelligence.

Tuesday, 21 January 2020 by Kelly Idehen

I see a lot of people, even high level AI researchers, caught up in the conundrum of whether Machine Intelligence will ever triumph over human intelligence.

For me, I don’t think it is proper to even compare both kinds of intelligence, they are two separate entities. Computers can never be human and humans can never be computers. .
.
But this does not negate the fact that, Machine Intelligence is improving exponentially, while human intelligence is limited only to linear progression.

So what happens when Machine Intelligence rises so steep beyond anything we as humans can even conceive of today? .
.
I hope to discuss more about this in a future post. .
